The Diet Dunces Project | Coaching Call (7 of 12)

On a rainy day in November 2013 leading cardiologist Dr. Aseem Malhotra and I invited 3 self-proclaimed diet dunces to discuss diet, health and lifestyle! From Monday 6th January we’ll be following their progress in terms of health and weight loss over 12 weeks via individual blogs, Twitter and of course on our YouTube channel with weekly Google Hangouts.

I’m 39 years old and live in a small village in Derbyshire. I work as a Teaching Assistant at a local primary school and can honestly say I love my job! I’m an avid collector of tattoos, lover of vintage and enjoy listening to rock and punk music. Add all this to my collection of dogs, cats, ferrets and chickens and that’s me!

[two_columns_1]I’ve been dieting since I was 15 years old. I’ve tried everything. From seeing ‘expert’ nutritionists, calorie counting, liquid diets to the good old favourite of ‘eating less and exercising more’. I’ve even been prescribed medication by my GP and have seriously considered bariatric surgery. I’ve never had issues with dieting and have always been able to stick to a diet religiously. It’s when the weight loss stops and plateaus, I lose interest in starving myself and not losing weight any more. I’ve never been very active. I tend to start off full of good intentions and exercise regularly and then not at all.

I can only think of three times in my life so far when I have been completely happy with my body, the last being a couple of years ago. The thing is I love food; I love cooking, going out for meals and I love entertaining friends. My world pretty much revolves around food – when I am not busy working, I am thinking about food – planning what to eat next, what to have for lunch or dinner, what to snack on…the list goes on.
